A tale of two twins...

Our twins are fraternal (obviously), but you sometimes think that there should be some kind of resemblance (physical or otherwise), right?

Yeah...not so much with our kids.

I'm pondering their differences as we head into a 2.5 hour bedtime with Beckett, which is pretty standard these days. Maren, on the other hand has been asleep for 2.5 hours, drifting off into slumber after being swaddled and fed. Beckett begins his reign of terror shortly after the supper hour, and when it ends is completely up to him. We've had 6 hour stretches, and we've also been graced with a mere 1 hour bedtime on occasion.

Other differences I've noticed:

-Beckett is a dirty blond, Maren has reddish brown hair.
-Beckett's eyes are deep blue, Maren had gray-blue eyes.
-Beckett grazes, while Maren gulps.
-Beckett eats until he is full, Maren eats and eats and eats.
-Beckett sucks his thumb, Maren tries to eat her fist.
-Beckett is long and lean, and Maren is the most gorgeous chubby baby you've ever seen.
-Beckett loves to smile, and Maren gives a mean "stinkeye".

But, the biggest difference is in how they fall asleep, much to my frustration.

Maren will happily drift off to sleep (a la textbook style) after being fed, swaddled and put in her crib. She's always put down drowsy, but awake. Beckett, on the other hand, will scream bloody murder at the mere suggestion of going to bed, and will make you work for every second of downtime in the evenings, if you're lucky enough to have any. He needs to be rocked, swayed, coddled, hugged, nursed, burped and jiggled. And even then, you'd better hope the stars are aligned.

Sigh....it's a good thing he's cute.

  1. I haven't tried it nor have I read it but a new babygroup in Dartmouth has sent out a few copies of the "Sleep Sense Program" in PDF Format. They all seem to swear by it. Maren sounds much like Alex in the way of sleep. I think he'd sleep 20 hours a day if we let him!

If you would like a copy, just let me know. Apparently it's quite lengthy but maybe worth a try for Beckett?!

PS Both twins and Maeve are just gorgeous!

  2. Oh my Jenn ! As always wonderful thoughts and still very witty but i can't wait to try my "jiggling act" next time i am down !!

So Maren's hair is definitely on the reddish side as it seemed to be veering.....very exciting and with her beautiful smile and those big eyes [ when they are not giving the 'stink eye" as you call it, make for interesting and beautiful children !!

Beckett with his wonderful grin and blue eyes and big sister maeve with her blond hair and huge "blueberry eyes" and the greatest smile ever....

Three very different looking children but watching the twin's personalities develop as we did with Maeve will be great fun .

I will say again how very fortunate these grandbabies of mine are to have you and Brent as parents.....but God knew what he was doing !!

Please hang in there ...really does fly by ..Love you , Mom xo

  3. I could have written the same post on my, just changing the names. I look at mine every day and think "How on earth are you two twins?" My boys don't even look related, let alone like twins!
Your peanuts are gorgeous and I promise they will continue to surprise you every day :)
